Is HAPPŸLAMP safe for children?

Yes HAPPŸLAMP is safe for children. Ensure your child does not look directly into the lamp and build their exposure time slowly every day. If your child is experiencing any side effects, decrease exposure time or move the lamp further away. Parental supervision is recommended.

How often should I use my HAPPŸLAMP?

We recommend you use your HAPPŸLAMP daily for approximately 30-60 minutes per day, during the winter months when sun is limited. It is most effective when used first thing in the morning upon waking. Ultimately, we are all different with different lifestyles, working rosters and time constraints so find what works for you!

Can I wear glasses or contact lenses while using my HAPPŸLAMP?

Yes you can wear glasses and contact lenses as long as they are clear and don't have tinted lenses. Light must enter through the eyes to be effective so sunglasses or tinted lenses will prevent HAPPŸLAMP from working effectively. HAPPŸLAMP will not work if you fall asleep.

What is Lux?

Lux can be described as the amount of light that falls on an object. Bright sunlight can emit up to 120,000 lux, whereas an overcast day can be less than 1,000 lux, and a stormy day less than 200 lux. Office and home lights generally supply approximately 500 lux. Research shows that well being is improved by daily exposure to light of more than 2,500 lux. HAPPYLAMP gives you a choice of settings from 2000 - 12,000 lux, with 4 timer settings, ensuring you receive enough daily light for optimal health and happiness in just 30 minutes a day.

Is there evidence light therapy works?

Light therapy has been proven to work in many different research projects. Here is an example below: Light therapy (LT) was first developed and has been established as the treatment of choice for winter seasonal affective disorder (SAD)(Partonen and Pandi-Perumal, 2009). It has a latency of action of only few days (Martiny et al., 2004) and a low side-effect profile (Terman and Terman, 1999). The use of light therapy has then expanded beyond SAD (Terman, 2007), with recent studies providing evidence for the efficacy of bright LT in non-seasonal major depression. Confirming the results of the earliest studies (Kripke, 1998), the APA Committee on Research on Psychiatric Treatments (Golden et al., 2005) and a Cochrane review (Tuunainen et al., 2004) concluded that LT for non-seasonal depression is efficacious, with effect sizes equivalent to those in most antidepressant pharmacotherapy trials. When combined with standard antidepressant drug treatment for unipolar depression LT hastens recovery, with benefits that can be perceived by the patients during the first week of treatment (Benedetti et al., 2003, Martiny et al., 2005).
